Prolific Malayalam director and screenwriter Lohithadas (54), well-known for his deep and realistic depiction of characters in Bhoothakannadi (1997), Thaniyavarthanam (1987), Kasthooriman (1997), Kireedom (1990), Bharatham (1991), Sallapam (1995), Thoovalkottaram (1996) and Nivedyam (2007), passed away on Sunday morning at 10:50 a.m. in Lisy Hospital Eranakulam. Hospital sources said that the director was admitted to the hospital early in this morning after he suffered a cardiac arrest.

US President Barack Obama extended his condolences to Michael Jackson’s family and fans, and noted that the pop icon’s life at times was "sad and tragic," the White House said. Obama’s condolences came one day after Jackson died at the age of 50 from an apparent cardiac arrest. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters that he discussed the death with Obama.
