Today is Kamal Hassan’s birthday. This year the Ulaganayagan and his fans have some special reasons to feel proud. For, this is the actor’s 50th year in cinema.
It was on 12 August 1959 a five-year-old boy going by the name Kamal Haasan started hias journey in cinema. Today, with 50 years of experience, the ’Ulaga Nayagan’ has come a long way, acting in over 150 films in various Indian languages.
In his own words, ’it is just like a dream. I feel as if I have just begun my journey. I wonder what I have achieved. There are miles to go before I sleep.’
Kamal, who holds the distinction of being the actor with most number of films submitted by India for the Oscars (Academy Award) in Best Foreign Language Film category, remains a down-to-earth person.
Dramatist and dialogue writer Crazy Mohan, who worked with Kamal for over half-a-dozen movies, says, ’His knowledge of various subjects always amazed me. He was great learner and could speak on any subject including medical science, agriculture, engineering and astronomy.’
In his golden jubilee year in Tamil cinema, Kamal gifted film buffs Unnai Pol Oruvan, remake of Hindi hit ’A Wednesday’. The movie produced by RaajKamal Films International in collaboration with UTV Motion Pictures brings is by Chakri Toleti. The movie has musical score by Sruthi Haasan.
