The Karnataka Chalanachithra Academy has decided to celebrate veteran film producer-director-actor B.R.Panthulu’s centenary celebrations throughout this year by organising the screening of all his nineteen Kannada films.

The Academy headed by Nagabharana has also decided to organise seminars in each district and also to bring out some books on the life and works of B.R.Panthulu who was one of the biggest producers during the fifrties and sixties having produced many blockbusters in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and even in Hindi. B.R.Panthulu was the man behind the blockbuster Hindi film Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya.

KCA had organised a function which was attended by Padmabhushan B.Saroja Devi and Ms. Vijayalakshmi, cinemetographer of Tamil films and daughter of B.R.Panthulu. Encomiums on Panthulu were by Saroja Devi who had made some top class films with her besides helping her out when she had faced a big crisis in her career.

Saroja Devi’s Kiththoor Chennamma, one of the best films produced by Panthulu has won a lot of appreciation for the actress besides winning her some prestigious awards. She was also the heroine for Panthulu’s Hindi film. A photo exhibition of Panthulu’s films and many other stills featuring him were displayed.

Boodguru Ramakrishna Panthulu, better known as B.R.Panthulu born on 26th July 1910, has produced and directed 57 films in a film career spanning more than three decades out of which nineteen were in Kannada. His classic films include School Master, Makala Rajya, Kiththoor Chennamma and Krishnadeva Raaya in Kannada, Kappalottiya Thamizhan, Veera Pandiya Kattabomman, Karna, Aayiraththil Oruvan, Sabhash Meena and Rahasiya Police in Tamil and Gaali Medalu Pillalu Thechina Challani Rajyam in Telugu. He had worked and directed films with all legendary Super Stars in South including MGR, Sivaji Ganeshan, NTR, ANR and Dr. Raj Kumar.

B.R.Panthulu had introduced former Tamil Minister Jayalalithaa in Kannada film Chandanadha Gombe after which she was paired with MGR in Aayirathil Oruvan. He died on 8th October 1974 in Bangalore while working for a Tamil script featuring MGR.
