Kollywood Actresses Attract Only Frontbenchers
August 18, 2008
Has the role in Satyam gone against Nayanthara’s image as the girl with the right attitude and oomph factor?Yes seems to be the answer, as our website is flooded with letters and mails from her fans on why she had to do this role of a dumb girl Deiva accompanied by her side-kick comedian Premji with a video camera?
The popular complaint against her role- “ Nayanthara is there as lead to four of the five songs in the film- Yen Anbae, Chellamay Chellamay and Paal Papaali”.OK… in Tamil superstar films, heroines are there as mere set property and songs. Still the same Nayanthara shined in Yaaradi Nee Mohini, where she was throughout the film and it was a hit!
Recently Nayanthara also received flak when she did a scene with Vadivel in Kuselan, where the comedian accidentally end up in her bedroom and without her knowledge makes lewd faces as she is dressing! In the entire film her character has no dialogue.
But why are our actresses treated in poor light? The sad truth is that, these girls have no choice! Earlier Trisha too was targeted by critics when she did characters of educated rich girl in Bheema and Kuruvi falling in love with uneducated goondas seeing their muscles!
In Bollywood, gone are the days where the female lead flips for a macho man or is always in kitchen and is the typical sati savithri type. Remember that recently when Nayanthara plays the bold Sasha with the right amount of glamour and attitude, who was never after the handsome hero in Billa, it worked big time with the masses.
Then why are directors in Kollywood offering roles to heroines that offers them more than just revealing cleavage to attract frontbenchers? Today, girls in Bollywood prefer to do roles with shades of not just white and grey but a splendid black which are more challenging and true to the skin characters.
