Reiterating that his association with the film world had always been a source of rejuvenation, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has said his love towards film industry would continue forever and he would strive for the growth of Tamil cinema.
Addressing a function organised to distribute the State government’s film awards for 2007 and 2008 in Chennai Tuesday, he said he attended the function, despite his ill health, as he saw the film event as a cure to his illness.
"The film world had always been a source of rejuvenation and inspiration whenever I was physically and mentally exhausted in public and political life. It was that affinity that made me reject the doctors’ advice to participate in the function," he said.
Karunanidhi, who received the best dialogue writer award for the film ’Uliyin Osai,’ from actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, said the occasion made him recall the days he worked together with Sivaji Ganesan and MGR.
Rajini and Kamal presented him a medal and citation. Karunanidhi said unlike other remunerations that he received from the film industry, he would not dedicate this gift to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. "I wish to retain this as a souvenir of the art world’s love for me," he said,
