Veteran Malayalam director I.V. Sasi’s super hit Mammootty starrer Mrigaya (1989) is all set to be remade in Tamil by director Amal Neerad with Suriya playing the role of Varunni, a leopard hunter. Amal is currently busy with his Prithviraj starrer and is expected to begin the Mrigaya remake in 2010.
Produced by K.G. Rajagopal under the banner of KRG Enterprises, Mrigaya (also spelt Mrugaya) was scripted by prolific Malayalam director and screenwriter Lohithadas. Starring Thilakan, Pappu, Jagannadha Varma, Lalu Alex, Urvasi and Sunitha in major roles, the film has music by Shanker Ganesh. Notably, Mammootty was considered for the State award for his bold and striking performance in this film.
