Through his education trust, Sivakumar is giving prizes and encouraging student toppers on a State level for the past 28 years. The 29th year function took place at the Film Chamber auditorium in Chennai. Sivakumar disbursed education grants of up to 3 lakhs to the students at the function.”Sivakumar Education Trust was started in 1979. Through the years, it has been giving whatever help it can for education of students. After 25 years, Surya has taken up responsibility and is doing a great job. This year, double the grant money than last year is being given to deserving students. How much poor students struggle for an education in villages is news to kids here. I know this from experience. I could not even afford to buy a soap when I was studying in Chennai. That’s why I find great satisfaction in looking out for poor deserving students from villages and helping fund their education. I would like to bring more light into the lives of many more students,” said Sivakumar.
Surya distributed certificates and said a few words. “Seeing the service rendered by my father for the past 29 years, I started the Agaram Foundation. Through the Agaram Trust, nearly 25 lakhs is disbursed annually for education purposes. Anbu Kumar of Govt Adidravida Nalapalli has got first marks and a seat in Stanley Medical College. I am happy to say that all his education expenses will be taken care of by Agaram Trust. We are discussing about setting up free tuition centres all over Tamilnadu this year. We are also considering opening libraries in govt schools and to set up education welfare committees in village schools over the State.”A cheque for 2 lakhs was handed over by Surya to Kalyani, the Principal of Thindivanam Thaithamizh Thodakkapalli for development of education. The prayer song was rendered by Sivakumar’s daughter Brinda. Studio Screen producer K E Gnanvel gave the welcome speech and S K Prabhu gave the vote of thanks.
