Pasanga Tamil Films At International Film Festival Of India

The International Film Festival of India in its Indian Panorama section will feature Bollywood treats like Anurag Kashyap`s `Dev D` and Vishal Bharadwaj`s `Kaminey`.

Apart from Bollywood treats, regional language movies also will be showcased. There will be six movies from West Bengal, three each from Karnataka and Maharashtra and two each from Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the special Panorama section. The two Tamil films are Pasanga directed by Pandi Raj and Achamundu Achamundu directed by Arun Vaidyanathan. Also five Hindi films, two English films, one Rajasthani, Konkani and Tulu movies will be screened. On the whole, there will be 26 films of which five were nominated by the Film and Television Producers Guild and the Film Federation of India.

The film festival will commence from November 23rd at Panjim, Goa. Mainstream films have taken a place in the Indian Panorama which was earlier only meant for the finest of Indian art cinema. Some of the noteworthy commercial films in this section comprise of Dibakar Banerjee`s `Oye Lucky-Lucky Oye` and Pandi Raj`s `Pasanga`.

Other non-commercial films that find their place in the film festival are Nandita Das`s maiden venture, `Firaaq`, Buddhadeb Dasgupta`s `Janala`, Shaji Karun`s `Kutty Srank`, MS Sathyu`s `Ijjodu` and Rituparno Ghosh`s `Shob Charitro Kalponik` and `Haat: The Weekly Bazaar` by Seema Kapoor, is a rare entry from Rajasthan. The films will be judged by a seven member jury consisting of Muzaffar Ali, film critic and writer Gautaman Bhaskaran, and movie directors/producers Raja Mitra, Bobby Bedi, Joseph Pulinthanath, Leslie Carvalho and J Mahendra.
