They are a wired community. Get onto the Internet and you are bound to spot almost all of Tollywood ’s celebs on some social networking site or the other. Unlike Amitabh or Aamir, the local stars may not have taken a shine to blogging, but they are all well connected and besides airing views on their social networking profile, they also spend hours chatting with fans, family and friends.
Laptop-toting stars juggling multiple highend communication gadgets are a common sight these days on the sets. For director Puri Jagannath, his i-phone is almost like a lifeline while he’s shooting and when he is at home, he’s often found in the company of his laptop as it helps him “stay connected to close buddies” and to “check movies sites”.
Ditto with Sanjana, who carries two mobiles and an ipod to the sets. She says, “Surfing the Internet is my biggest addiction. When I am at home, I am on my laptop for almost five to six hours a day, and I update my profile regularly. Some of the mails I get are a lot of fun, but I am wary of answering them.
Actress Shraddha Das, who gets 50 “add requests” from fans everyday, however, is furious that some overenthusiastic fans open fictitious accounts in her name and upload her photos and info. The actress regularly checks the Net to update herself on Tollywood news and says that “it’s nice to keep in touch with colleagues” especially her friends Allu Arjun and Kajal. For her, the Net is an important bonding tool. “When I am shooting, I am away from family and friends most of the time, so I always take my laptop with me and my mobile too is connected to the Net,” she said.
Teen actor, Suhani, is also addicted to the Internet and pulls out her laptop whenever free. “I keep in touch with my classmates, check film sites and I simply love gaming,” she says.
AAMOF (As a matter of fact) Tollywood’s young brigade is perhaps the most active lot on the Net. You’ve got, Rana Daggubati, Sumanth, Allu Arjun, Trisha, Priyamani, Kajal, Madhu Shalini, Manchu Manoj Kumar, Mamta Mohandas, Raja, Sneha Ullal, Aryan Rajesh, Kamal Kamaraju, Raghu Kunche, Rahul, Madhu Shalini, Bindu Madhavi, Vedika, Geetha Madhuri and Rinil Routh, to name a few. Seems like Tollywood’s Gen Next is not just surfing, but riding the tech wave.
