Chiranjeevi Worried About His Blood Bank
The authorities of the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank are not unduly worried about the allegations being leveled by certain politicians on the operation of the blood bank. For, they know pretty well that Chiranjeevi is bound to face such mudslinging because his political entry is causing jitters among the other parties.
D Krishna Rao, administrative officer, Chiranjeevi Eye and Blood Bank, has stoutly denied the allegations that the bank was operating on commercial lines. “Blood is supplied absolutely free of cost to the needy in our blood bank. We will give blood to anyone who walks into our bank with a letter from a hospital without taking a single rupee. Every year, the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank supplies 30,000 units of blood,” Rao told Deccan Post.
An executive working in the blood bank, however, said blood is given free of cost for a white ration card holder but for others, a nominal charge of Rs 375 per unit is collected. “However, if you are already registered as a blood donor in the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank and if you are in need of blood, you will get it free of cost, provided you produce the blood bank card. Those who need blood will have to produce a letter from a hospital with blood group along with blood sample,” he said.
Krishna Rao also denied the allegations on arrangements of beds in the blood donation camps. “The organisers themselves will have to make arrangements for beds. We have nothing to do with it. Recently we conducted a blood donation camp in Genpact. We sent doctors and nurses from the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank and the organisers themselves arranged beds in the camp,” he said.
